Icelandic-born, New-York based designer Hlynur V. Atlason has led his studio ATLASON for over fifteen years. During that time, he has created many successful and memorable products. In 2018, he launched the Von collection for Ercol at Salone del Mobile and ICFF and was handpicked by Design Within Reach to design the Lína chair, their most successful chair design introduction to date.
Since graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York, Atlason has worked for some of the biggest and most respected global brands, including Absolut Vodka, Umbra, Artecnica, Estée Lauder, and Stella Artois. He designed the packaging for Microsoft’s X-Box, collaborated with MoMA Design Store on a range of kitchen utensils, and his “TUNO” clock was produced by IKEA.
Working with brands of every size, Atlason’s design philosophy is defined by the pursuit of functionality. He has developed his own style of approaching the design process, informed by research, craft, and innovation. Inspired by the challenge of finding realistic solutions for every project, Atlason creates beautiful designs while never compromising functionality: everything imagined can be made.
Atlason is currently an adjunct lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in New York, in the Products of Design Masters Degree Program.
