With inspirations ranging from a Broadway stage to an orange chair covered with discarded objects, whether it’s the paparazzi or an imaginary creature that gets your wheels spinning, choose your muse on the Chairousel. If you’re one to think big, atop is the largest chair of them all – a 26 foot high chair serving as the canopy over this spinning show of seats.

Chairousel is curated by 3D Design Chair Kevin O’Callaghan and BFA Interior Design Chair Dr. Carol Bentel.

  • TIMES SQUARE DESIGN LAB

    New ideas for public space

The 2019 Design Lab is a series of exciting partnerships. The debut of the Rely bench is a result of the design of New Yorker Joe Doucet and Belgian partners in innovative 3D printing technology, Concrenetics, a worldwide leader in the emerging technology of concrete 3D printing in a joint venture with Urba-Style (BE) and Loughborough University (UK).

Also presented is a restored original K67 Kiosk. A noted design from 1967 by Slovenian Saša Machtig, discovered in MoMA’s exhibition, Toward a Concrete Utopia; Architecture in Yugoslavia, 1948-1980. Public space kiosks are a challenging design problem and this solution was a success in plazas throughout Eastern Europe and the USSR. Times Square Design Lab worked directly with Machtig, MoMA and Slovenian experts to bring the historic K67 to this very American public space.

TSqDL also featured other projects including Island Collection by Brad Ascalon - now sold worldwide through Landscape Forms - and evolving designs with Louis Lim and Makingworks, Vestre and more.
