BOA is the founder and creative director of OI Studio, a design firm that produces bespoke furniture and home accessories using sustainable materials and processes.
She studied graphics at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her passion for all things beautiful led her to the furniture/interiors industry after a past spent working in disparate professions. She is a self-taught furniture designer who approaches each custom project as a collaboration between her, the client, and the manufacturer.
After witnessing the effects of mass deforestation in Brazil and Bali in the early 2000’s she made a shift to green design. She then spent the first few years of her design practice evangelizing an industry-wide shift to sustainability, at a time when it was difficult to find eco-friendly
materials, manufacturers, or clients that were open to making a change.
BOA’s design aesthetic is an intersection of her reverence for nature, minimalism, and fine craftsmanship. Throughout 18+ years of experience in her field she has exhibited her work at multiple furniture trade shows.
Being raised on St. John, US Virgin Islands, which is mostly a nature preserve, she has always been acutely aware of the need to balance our natural environment with the built one. Her
Caribbean roots contribute to her love for the beach and much of her adult life has been spent chasing the sun in far-flung destinations.
